NationsClassroom is an active member of the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA). We are happy to support its Student Youth Foundation (SYF), which offers Road Scholarships each year to travelers who, for various reasons, are unable to afford the cost of student group trips.

The average Road Scholarship is $750, with a maximum award of $1,000 given to an individual, and up to $5,000 awarded to a group nomination.

Based on the belief that "travel is essential to a complete education," the Foundation strives to make a positive difference in young lives through travel. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant's circumstances and need as documented in an application form that is available on the Foundation's website during the application period.

The 2018 Spring Road Scholarship Application period will open on Thursday, February 1 through March 16, 2018. The Application will become available during this time.

Civil War Trust Scholarships

Civil War Trust.pngThe Civil War Trust's field trip grants allow K-12 educators to take students on educational tours to historic sites with curricular connections to the Civil War, War of 1812, and Revolutionary War battlefields. Approved applicants can receive up to $1,500 in funding to be applied to transportation to and from the site(s), guide fees, meals, and admissions to the historic sites.

Believing strongly that "battlefields are outdoor classrooms," the Trust awards funds to support field trips to “truly unique locations for education, commemoration, and contemplation,” including Gettysburg, Yorktown, and other sites along the historic East Coast.

Application Period                                                 Announcement Date

Year round, at least one month prior to traveling.    Within two weeks of submission.

Current K-12 educators are eligible to apply for field trip funding on behalf of the school or district. Funds are disbursed after completion of the trip, and the submission of all necessary forms, receipts, and thank you cards, which are a requirement in exchange for the Trust’s funding.

The decision making process for approvals and funding are impacted by the school's financial need, the number of students participating, the certitude of teacher plans, battlefield-centric experiences offered, planned activities, as well as the availability of funds.

Voya Unsung Heroes Award Program®

Voya Unsung Heroes.pngFrom digital storytelling to community showcases, many school trip leaders require students to complete innovative projects based on their educational travel experiences, making the Voya Unsung Heroes grant worth considering. The funds are awarded to K-12 educators to support the use of teaching methods and techniques that build connections and improve student learning.
