Located inside a mixed-use commercial building complex two blocks away from the vicinity of the National Mall and adjacent Smithsonian museums, the L’Enfant Plaza Food Court makes for an excellent and suitable lunchtime destination for NationsClassroom school groups.
After undergoing a massive $46 million-dollar renovation and expansion a few years ago, this revamped 120,000 square-foot underground space is presently lined up with over 40 eateries and shops (including a 10,000 square-foot CVS Pharmacy). It can accommodate a seating capacity for nearly 900 people.
Among the dining options found in its corridors include nationwide and local chains such as Amsterdam Falafelshop, Panda Express, Subway, Five Guys, Roti Mediterranean Grill, California Tortilla, Potbelly, Starbucks, Auntie Anne’s, Pie Five Pizza Co., Moe’s Southwest Grill, Church’s Chicken, Au Bon Pain, Naan & Beyond, Sandella’s Flatbread Café, and Mamma Ilardo’s Pizzeria. A full list of shops and restaurants can be found here. A few more places will be added in the near future.
The food court is open from Monday to Saturday with hours varying by eatery. However, be aware that on Saturdays not all vendors are open and those that are operate on reduced hours. Keep in mind that high volume times are usually on the weekdays from 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., especially during peak tour season (March thru August) which is often punctuated by scores of tourists and the federal government work crowds, as well as limited seating.
Therefore, plan accordingly to allow yourself sufficient time to navigate through the hallways, line up, and eat. Fortunately, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of going through any mandatory security checkpoints.
